Part 17: Ventilation shaft from Bologna(I) to Trieste(I)
A short 300km trip to our second checkpoint - earning €13,000.
On the Autostrada out of Bologna.
Italian counrtyside.
Crossing a river.
Heading for Trieste.
A few more tunnels before we arrive.
First sight of the beautiful city.
Arriving at Vitas.
Sunset...
And so we arrived in Trieste on Saturday week 2 (1 week after leaving Portsmouth) 5733km of driving behind us. Our next leg will take us for a scenic drive around Croatia, Macedonia and Greece before finishing on the island of Cyprus...
However for (good) life reasons there will sadly be no posts here until late June 2019 at the earliest, it's been an amazing trip so far and I look forward to sharing it with you guys later next year - there's still loads of Europe left to travel through. Until then, enjoy this epic sunset over Trieste and I'll see you soon!

375km down the beautiful Croatian coastline.
At the port of Trieste.
Through the towns on the Italy/Slovenia/Croatia border.
Going around Rijeka.
Beautiful Coastline near Senj.
Boats in the harbour with mountains in the background.
Starting to look a little dry. It was a very hot day with the temperature up to 32°C.
Over the Novsko ždrilo.
Arriving in Zadar.

Having driven further down the coast to find a job, I arrived in Split at sunset. It was going to be a long night up into the mountains to the service station just north of Žuta Lovka.
Part 19: Diesel from Split(HR) to Žuta Lovka Services(HR)
300km north up into the Croatian Dinarides, earning €30,000.
The Sun sets over Split.
Getting back onto the E65 out of Split. (Where has my shadow gone!?)
Beginning the ascent up into the Dinarides.
Total darkness...
Midnight goes past and the road keeps going.
Another toll and the police pulled somone over.
We arrive at the services, not that you can tell through the darkness.
That's enough night driving for a while, but it has gotten us close enough to easily reach Ljubljana by tommorrow.

After a short drive, I arrived in the Croatian capital of Zagreb in the early morning. I picked up a heavy load bound for another capital city, Ljubljana...
Part 20: Pressure tanks from Zagreb(HR) to Ljubljana(SLO)
A short 150km along motorways to the Slovenian capital earning €10,000.
Leaving Zagreb to pick up the load at a small industrial estate on the outskirts.
The smooth and newly surfaced E70.
A rather terrifying tanker fire.
The terrain here is much more forrested than the coast or mountains of the previous journeys.
Entering Slovenia.
Forests and rivers and gently rolling hills...
Arriving in Ljubljana with more mountains in the background.

Stopping off in Ljubljana was nice but it also meant that I was much further west than intended, so it was time for a long journey east to the Hungarian city of Pécs...
Part 21: Water tank from Ljubljana(SLO) to Pécs(H)
400km east earning €18,000 - the last leg with the flatbed trailer.
On the motorway again - through a tunnel, over a bridge, past a village.
More hills and colder, cloudier weather than before.
The Sun sets across Maribor, I'll have to sleep at the border to avoid any more night driving.
A close up of the truck, about 7,500km driven already.
The Sun continues setting as I arrive at the border...
...Morning arrives in Hungary and our journey continues.
Budapest on the sign - that's a city we'll visit (much) later.
A level crossing in rural Hungary.
Arriving in Pécs.

In Pécs I picked up a curtainsider for the next part of the journey into Serbia and beyond.
Part 22: Used packaging from Pécs(H) to Нови Сад (Novi Sad)(SRB)
370km through Croatia and Serbia to the ancient city of Novi Sad on the banks of the Danube. Earning €15,000.
Leaving Pécs.
Back in Croatia.
Traffic on the road to Osijek.
More newly surfaced roads.
Through the countryside.
At the Serbian border. The most difficult border crossing so far, they wanted to check every piece of cardboard in my trailer.
Novi Sad on the sign along with Niš - where we will head next.
Crossing the Danube as we approach Novi Sad on the E75(A1).
Finally at the depot.
Well that was a very long day of border delays, wonderful vistas across the open country and even the first incident of the trip. Someone (A Renault) rear-ended me as I slowed down for a junction (On the slip road), so that was fun. To make matters worse I couldn't find a hotel in Novi Sad so I've parked on the roadside instead. Tommorrow we head south for Niš...

Part 23: Smoked Sprats from Нови Сад (Novi Sad)(SRB) to Ниш (Niš)(SRB)
330km though Serbia.
Crossing the Danube again as we leave Novi Sad.
Huge open fields in the countryside.
Over another bridge - this time across the river Sava.
A new section of motorway ready to be opened.
Over the steep rolling hills of central Serbia on a series of bridges.
Wheat ready to be harvested.
Arriving in Niš.
Pulling into the supermarket and enjoying the tight space to reverse into.

Part 24: Used Pallets from Ниш (Niš)(SRB) to Скопје (Skopje)(MK)
Leaving Serbia behind and entering Macedonia.
Rejoining the road on our long journey south.
More roadworks.
The mountains of southern Serbia.
Entering Macedonia.
Making the turn westwards to Skopje.
At the depot.
