Ive started a new profile just with the promods files it goes so far and then just stops doesn't go any further but this has happened on most profiles i've tried

Take in count that the first charge can take up to 30 minutes, maybe what is happening to you isn't that it hangs, it's only that the navigation cache is being built. You should let it load.

You can use many mods, you just have to try them out and check if the game crashes or not. If does so, then it's not compatible and you will have to remove it.
