Try Disabling all the mods except promods Then If that works enable the other mods you have in your mod list

I played around with the order quite a bit and basically copied the order that can be seen in the tutorial to install promods, but it didn't help.

That part of the tutorial predates the new Mod Manager, in which everything is turned upside down! No, really!

Map mods must be at the very bottom of the "Active Mods" listing. All mods are loaded staring from the bottom all the way to the top!

I tried it both ways, trust me, it just doesn't want to work and the tutorial was made for the 1.96 version of promods specifically and it contains the Mod Manager, but thanks anyway.

My patch won't help with the crashes. We need further investigation into those...
