A few questions

Hi, I want to make a map of Poland (thinking about 1:1, maybe I'll finish it in 50 years). Everything is fine. My problems start when I want to make a city. Can someone teach me how to do them?
And I want to make some assets with road numbers, city names etc. How to do it?

Start small. Don't go overambitious... People fail even with 1:2 projects which have several devs. 1:1 alone will "kill" you - good luck with motivation and millions of models you'll need. Every house is different, every tree, every intersection, every sign, every single thing... Think about it and you'll realize it's just not possible to make a realistic 1:1 map even with a team of a hundred people ;)

Learn to map first, get familiar with the editor, do some basic roads, then villages, then cities and difficult roads with unique landscapes - you don't need custom assets yet, if there's nowhere to place them.

I want to rebuild this: Image
It's not that big. It doesn't have to be superrealistic, I'll be happy just with something similar to real life. And I need these assets for this: Image
These roads will probably never be in ProMods. At least not now. Rebuilding Darłowo (which I'm currently building) in 1:19 is impossible, 1:3 is still hard to do and doesn't make me happy. It's just too small for PM.

1. I would reccomened starting a small fictional map, just so you can learn all the basicis and become confident and then you can move to real life.
2. I highly would't reccomened 1:1 even when you are more advanced, I would only do it for a very small area. It is better to set smaller goals then bigger goals otherwise you will loose a lot of motivation.
3. Don't worry about custom assets, you need to learn the basics first ;) . If you really want assets then just have promods in your mod folder, but it will be a requirment for your mod.
4. People think cities are completly diffrent to make then landscape, the truth is they aren't, if you want some advice I would reccomend looking at some finished cities in game.

Everyone is telling me not to make 1:1 map... Then let's make Darłowo in 1:19, challenge accepted :)
This map will be very small anyway. I have a lot of free time right now.

BUT:
1. I made a few maps. I tried to make a few cities (a very small part of Poznań in 1:1 just to learn some basics etc.). My map editor skills aren't bad, they also aren't great.
2. Darłowo isn't a big city. It took me 10 days to make a small part of it. This map will be private anyway. If I'm going to make a public map, it would be 1:3.
3. Navigation signs... Ouch...
It should look like this:

Code: Select all

 [203] Koszalin /\
                 |
 [37] Karwice <-|
     Sławno

And it looks like this:

Code: Select all

 Koszalin /\
           |
 Słupsk <-|
     Lębork

That's why I need some help with assets. And everyone is telling me not to make a 1:1 map🤔

For signs just use Mandelsofts tutourial, and use symlinks to link your base folder and mod folder ;)

I didn't even thought about this. Thank you! :D

We have Dziwnówek or Międzyzdroje in PM, so I'd say it's not impossible to fit one small city on our beautiful coast even in 1:19 ;)
Kołobrzeg would be a nice addition. If you have free time, I'd say making rebuilding roads/small towns would be a good idea, if you ever want to help us fill Poland with some cool stuff. I know working on your own region gives you more motivation, but when you're finished with your private map, you could try to do something else for players.

Thanks for this idea. I'll try to do it.
And what asset do you use to make city enter signs? :V

Check our cities and use the same sign we used, then just change the name.
