The current "Speculation" is that after Oregon is released, they will have 2 complete map teams working concurrently and that both Washington and Utah will be worked on for the next release cycle. Again, this is all rumor, speculation and hearsay at this point, so take it with a grain of salt.

Yeah, I heard about the two map teams thing. What would make the most business sense (at least from my perspective) is to have the two teams have a staggered release cycle, so we get one map update about every six months instead of two every year. More players will be willing to pay $20 twice a year instead of $40 all at once for the new releases, and more constant releases will help player retention.

For this reason, I am willing to bet that if there are two teams, then the second team is about halfway through developing the next state now. (Or they are just starting and the current team might be given a bigger project, like Texas or something, so their release comes out six months after the new teams first state).

Another possibility is that the second team could be tasked with updating older sections of the map. Many players complain about how boring California and Nevada are, and ETS is undergoing a rework in its older regions.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Texas, that state should take quite some time to build. Compared to other states/areas still left to do.

I know. That's why I think it might be a candidate in the very contrived situation where there are two map teams, map team two is only going to start work now at the same time team one starts a new project, and SCS wants to stagger releases without having an entire map team on payroll while they do nothing. Texas would be a large enough area that one team can do Utah in about a year, and the other team starting at the same time could plausibly be done in a year and a half.

But again, this scenario is really contrived and probably not the case. The most likely case for if they have two map teams is that the second team already has been working on the next DLC.

Regarding a map team on payroll while not doing anything, there will always be work to do.

2nd possible team already working the next DLC? That I do believe.
One of the pictures someone linked from instagram, where a map developer was doing work. I did found the exact spot that was from and it was from Washington state. Yakima.

Staggered release? That is quite possible, with 2 teams. Altho, that will depend on how the map working etc goes for each group.

Interesting Theory about the staggered map releases. I hadn't actually considered that. I hope you're right because it would cut down a little of the "When is the next state coming out" topics in other forums. To me, I'm fine either way. I do believe you are right about the map team(s) have probably already started on the next state(s) I remember, the week New Mexico came out, they did a blog post about signs and cheekily posted a picture of signs from Oregon. (Which, unfortunately, gave me hope it would come out more quickly than it actually did).
