So I now have promods 2.0 working, The only issue I notice is that it never really gets dark :s

I dont know if Im remembering ets2 wrongly or not but it seems not to get property night time on my game. It gets about as dark sunset but never really dark night time. So much so that Headlights are just about required and high beam is overkill,

This is the same all over the map from country roads to motorways, It just about gets dark but not quite, even at 2am in the morning you can still see the sun setting.

Has anyone experienced this or know of any mods which may remedy it?

The darkness depends on your latitude. Down in France and Italy it's rather dark.

The game resembles the state of things as of June, 22 (summer solstice). Though it seems to me a bit lighter than it actually is, too.

It indeed depends on the latitude.
If you were driving in Finland, Iceland or other northern country, it's possible that the sun set for an hour or two only, if ever. For example, the northernmost end of Finland already represented in game lies on the polar circle, which means that sun never sets there during the summer solstice ;)

Well now ive learnt something I didnt know, Ive been doing most of my driving in the uk which it does represent uk summer night time quite well, Aka dark sky but with a hint of light on the sunset up untill 11:30pm but then it should get properly dark from 12:30am ish to 5:30am is when you expect it to be pretty much pitch black.

Il have to venturing down south then, Another thing ive noticed is the speed limits dont seem correct for the uk, It should be 56mph on the motorway but on sat navs etc it shows 60mph, And various other limits range from 30-40-50.

the rest of europe seems correct though

No. Inverness at the height of summer would not go completely dark.

In UK, it could be partly the 1:15 scale that causes the problem?
UK is way bigger than it should be, compared to rest of Europe.
In my travels on ProMods map, the sun up/down and darkness have been quite good.

According to my knowledge, it is legal for lorries to drive 60 mph (96 km/h) but of course - you can't go that fast because all of trucks in the UK has a limiter on.

This^^^ although the speed limit is still wrong for England & Wales. It should be 50mph on single carriageways.
