I tried to open one off those .MAT (with access) to see how it looks but it is refused. And the .tojb file, I don't what their use, because they don't seems that we can open them. So I will try your methode, but the .MAT file seems to be useful in other case.
In the same case I searched for the other background pic (the one when you choose a city to do a job), but I didn't find it - I must be a bit blind.

The picture I used was something I made myself in InkScape. It's not a professional map, but just a plan I've drawn.

You can change the resolution of the map bgn but you also need to adjust some parameters in the editor.data.sii

Hello Mandelsoft

After toturing the files (don't worry the original is safe) and my head.
I didn't find the way to put a original background map (a tutorial about this part didn't exist on the internet sadly).
So first I did the same method you did.
I copied and opened the " editor.data.sii" in my "test" map and changed the different lines as shown.
Secondly put a europe.dds in my /material/editor folder (renamed test.dds).
Thirdly I copied the .mat and .tojb files. changes their name and opened it with hex extactor to change "europe" to "test".
The save of those file given me 2 new .bak files.
Then I saved the all the project (def+map+material) into a .scs file copied to the ETS2/mod folder, launched the editor and theire were only the black and red background when pressing A.

On the other hand I didn't find the mentionned .scs file.

So I would like to know where I did a mistake.

Have you changed the contents of the MAT-file. You also need a proper reference in there. You can open the file with a simple text editor.
