I would like to use the def file for the high vegetation drawing distance without the actual promods map because of the bad compatibility with the new dlc. Is is possible to use the def file as a standalone?

No, some .sii files requires assets. But you can find .sii files for high vegetation drawing distance and keep it.

Def file as standalone won't work. Just wait for a compatibility update with BtBS DLC.
