Anyone affected by these issues may be interested to learn there is a debate going on over at SCS Software Site/Forum.
Some claim it is caused by a software glitch in either the game or a mod whilst others believe their system performance is at fault.
However, there is now some compelling evidence to suggest that the game stutters at the precise time the auto-save occurs.
The poster (Serge SB) has conducted extensive tests and he claims this behaviour becomes more noticeable as a players 'profile' gets larger and hence, takes longer for the auto-save to be executed.
Anyway, just thought I would share - here's a link if you want to follow the debate:

That would be correct... if, every time the game really stutters with an accomplished profile (i.e. you've got every available driver hired), you immediately open the console, you will see an "the game has been auto-saved" message (or something to that effect).
To get an instant stutter, hit the quicksave key.
An "only auto-save when truck is stopped" checkbox would be appreciated. Allow me to go insert that request over on the SCS forums.

There is really nothing to debate. Since I keep the mini-console active all the time, it's immediately obvious that whenever an "auto save" has been done and the "hiccup" are co-related.
Similar 'stuttering' will occur any time a problem reading a texture file occurs.

I love technology - we are soooo lucky to be enjoying things that previous generations could not have imagined in their wildest dreams - only problem is there's no keeping up with it!

I've settled for 'High' instead of 'Ultra' and using the -64bit (switch) now getting a smooth 60fps in the country and 35+ fps in the towns. Bear in mind I'm using AMD eyefinity with three screens (5760 x 1080) so I think that's quite acceptable (for the time being)

Remember that the -64bit parameter means that you can't use the Adjustable Cruise Control tool at the moment.

Oh right... didn't know that but useful to know if / when I start using cruise control... got enough going on at the moment!
