[WIP] The full real-life ETS2 1.28.x + ProMods 2.2x Map

Dear ProMods community,

I can imagine that some of you want to know where you're driving on a real-life map when you're playing ETS2. Or at least I do.. So I made this.

A full navigation-map of Euro Truck Simulator 2 with ProMods!

You can find the ATS version of this map over here.


I've been playing ProMods since version 1.62. During this time I became fairly active at this forum (they even promoted me to moderator and beta-tester), and I love to follow the devs in their journey to a full-Europe-map!

I like Purno's map-view! It shows, in a surprisingly clear fashion, the progress and plans of SCS/ProMods.
I only missed one thing about that map-view, and that were the version numbers in which the cities first appeared.
I'm kinda addicted about knowing what every new version of a game/program/operating system brings/brought along.
So I took Purno's idea, changed it a bit, changed it a bit more, and decided to make my own version of it, but only with the released cities.
There's no planned stuff in this map-view, simply because I don't show stuff which isn't ready for release yet.

I posted this in the 'Share the Love'-section. Simply because this is my shared love to ProMods. :)
But someone said this must be in the Questions & Feedback forum. Bill moved it, and I'm really surprised about that. I didn't saw that one coming!

A little bit about the map-view:
At first it only had 1 layer.
  • Cities
But not only the city-names where added. I also added a suffix to those city-names like 'Padborg (ProMods 1.70)' or 'Graz (ETS 2 1.11)'. And I colored them, Red for SCS, Green for ProMods.
After a long search, I found a site with the full list of cities which were included in the DLC's, so I added that as a suffix too! And made them Orange.


But I didn't stop there.
I may sound insane, but I love the game + ProMods very much, and since I donated already. I said to myself. Make something for the ProMods-team (and the users), something special, something they don't really expect. So I decided to make this full map of the ProMods-progress.

And since I had a few more layers available, I added:
  • Roads
    Ports, train-stations and travel-routes
Adding all the ports, train-station and travel-routes was easy...
But the roads, damn that is a lot of work!
I started in July 2014 with GB, that's an island, so when I did that. I could somehow see how the result would be. I was very satisfied with the result! It just looked so much like IRL! Wondering what a ProMods country would look like, I decided to make Finland, that's, at least back then, an island too. Building the map is a never ending process of mapping and updating.....
I hope you guys like it. And I'm going to keep it up-to-date. Only this will take some time... And probably when I'm not even finished with making a map of the current version, the team will release the next version.. But that doesn't matter, I'll catch up!

Now that I've finished these countries, it surprises me how accurate the in-game-map actually is compared to the real-life map!

A little bit of an explanation about the way I named the roads:
FIN, 12, Intersection (10,12) - Intersection (12,140)
  • FIN, = At the start of every name, is the International Country Code as displayed on the licence-plates.
    12, = The number of the on-map road, mostly this is the same as it is in-game. But I also did the in-game roads that don't have a number. So that number is also said here.
    Intersection (10,12) = The start of the road-section, both in-game and on-map. Here it's an intersection between the 10 and the 12.
    Intersection (12,140) = The end of the road-section, both in-game and on-map. Here it's an intersection between the 12 and 140. It can also be a city-name or a border-crossing.
The roads are always divided in sections, from intersection to intersection, from intersection to city, from intersection to border-crossing, from city to city or from city to border-crossing.
That's because that way I can change the map-view more easily. :)

The real-life roads are drawn as close to their in-game counterparts as possible.
That's why I did some stretches of road for like three times before I was satisfied with the result.
This also means that some in-game roads follow multiple real-life roads.


That was the introduction of what I actually want to share...
As a big thank you to the whole of ProMods, (and SCS, but mostly ProMods) here are:

Length of roadways: (Only highways, country roads and parts of the roads to cities. Not the roads inside cities)
The in-game length was determined by counting the lengths of all roads in the Google Mapsengine and divide that by 19 (the in-game map-scale is 1:19), except for the roads in the United Kingdom, those were divided by 15 (The United Kingdom is the only country which has a in-game map-scale of 1:15). (The miles where done by Google)

Maybe that's why it's such a lot of work :lol: But Promods itself is in some detail too, the a full navigation map must also be in high detail :)

I just finished the roads around Paris, now I 'll do some trucking, and after that I 'll connect Paris to Western France :)


For the ones that are thinking. 'Doesn't he celebrate Christmas Eve?'
I indeed don't celebrate Christmas Eve this year, I'm in duty with Christmas this year. (While the rest of the company is having a 2 week holiday at home...
I'll celibate one the second Day of Christmas. :) Today and tomorrow I'm working (sort off...)
