I did wonder about the faroer bit myself, especially when being from the UK where they are called the Faroe Isles (or Islands), but I just thought it may be a different language thing.

I Googled it, and Google said 'Faroe', so 'Faroe' it is!

Faroer is plural.

Far = sheep
oe = island
r = plural form

Faroer = Islands of the sheep.

So, it are the Faroer Islands? Or the Faroe Islands?

In Danish (and most Scandinavian languages) the most commonly used term is "Faroer" (as it is the correct plural form). But you can't put Islands behind it.

In English Faroe Islands would be correct.

Faroe Islands are Färsaaret in finnish. Don't know words origin, but it sounds weird.

Because everything sounds weird in Finnish compared to other languages, right?
