Depends on the vehicle and it varies by country, but, generally speaking, for your average 5 axle articulated lorry (4x2 tractor, 3-axle trailer) the limit is 44 tons gross weight. Which I assume to be metric tons, because that is not specified in the documentation I have at work.
However, the EU reglementation allows for road trains (think of them as twins on steriods) up to 55 and 60 tonnes, but I haven't actually seen any such combination on our roads.

I found that in the EU 40 tons is max.

If you want to transport more you need a special permit.

Roadtrains are also starting to arrive (LVZ's named here) and they have a max weight of 60 tons and max length of 25,25 meter.

I have seen them before, here in the Netherlands and also Scandinavia uses them alot.

because they don't really exist IRL. the ones that do are mostly automated. (no need to stop)

Yeah, as I said, you mostly find them near industrial areas, where trucks are weighted before hitting the road.

I heard that they are around in Norway (at least people requested it).

Maybe SCS will implent the feature in ATS in the future.... Would be very cool :D
