Zeche Zollverein - Back in the day the biggest coal mine in Europe and the biggest employer of the Rhein-Ruhr Area. Closed on X-Mas day 1986 and turned into a musuem and a kind of theme park. It's also a part of the Unesco World Heritages.

Although closed you can still see workers go down into the mines to check stability of the area and to pump water out of the coalshafts.
