Hi, I have managed to change the UK A road designation font from Motorway to Transport if it is any help to anyone

I don't know if you has already done this but I got tired of Motorway on the wrong signs, I also changed the A road map icons to transport.
I am happy to share the files if anyone is interested

That's great! I wanted to correct that some time too, so yes, that is helpful to us.

I hate the green background on the romanian highway signage. Looks awful and old. And blue background is used on roads outside highways which makes me think it should be the other way around. Why can't it be at least similar to the german or to the french one (the one I love)?!

We have the same old signs in Slovenia, so I guess you're not alone

These signs are normally used in Czech Republic.. well, I don't really mind them, I think that it's better than e.g. German signage.. I hate those German yellow signs

I also think the combination blue + green is not that bad. Green as the main colour for the motorways is also OK in my opinion, since it does link subconciously with the green route shields of the E-routes, Europe's main route network. This is especially present in Denmark, Sweden and Finland, where most motorways are in fact E-roads. You see this colour combination quite widespread in Europe.

The list of colour combinations for motorway-secondary road sign background colour combinations, ranked from my most favourite to least favourite, are:

- Green | Blue (CH, SE, FI, CZ, SV, RO, GR)
- Blue | Blue (NL)
- Blue/Green | Blue (BE*)
- Green | Blue/White (DK***)
- Blue | Green (PL, HU)
- Blue | White (AT, ES, EE, LT, LV, PT)
- Blue | Green | White (UK**, IE**, FR**)
- Blue | Yellow (DE, LU)
- Green | Blue | Yellow (SI**)
- Green | Yellow (HR)

* Belgium signs references to motorways in green, but the signs turn blue again once you are on the motorway. This makes it easier to find the motorways on secondary roads while keeping the rest of the signs the same blue background colour.
** Slovenia, France, the UK and Ireland add an extra colour for expressways.
*** Denmark uses white signs (with red printing!) on the secondary roads, but blue signs when these roads are referenced from expressways or motorways.

Well I drove through Spain (I live in Spain), France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Slovenia, Austria, Hungary and Romania and so far the most attractive imo are as following:

France

Austria (Yeah, I like the austrian signage xD)

Slovenia
Italy
Hungary
Romania

I love the font and the way everything is organised on the french signage, and spanish one is not bad either.

This is from the spanish A22 (next to the town where I live)


You get the exit marked three times. The first 2 are blue and when you get to the 3rd one, just where the junction is, the exit sign is white, just like on national roads.

Here as well I think all of the motorways in Slovenia are European roads so green background doesn't really bother me. However. I prefer the blue background since it looks so good (e.g. Germany, Netherlands, Austria etc.). Also worth mentioning is that I'd prefer the secondary roads to be white instead of yellow (gosh, I hate them here )
