Something weird happened to me: I opened ETS this morning and something was wrong. Music was playing while I have the music off period, the game was in English while I have it in Dutch, and then when I continued, all the setting were reset (except graphics, although something did happened in there), and it looked all blurry. Then, all the gameplay setting were reset as well.

Been playing on Steam forever, that's not the problem.

It's nothing major though, as it's restored to normal (ish) now, but I'd like to know what caused it, thus how to prevent it.

Perhaps config file was corrupted? That would early signs of disk failure.

If your hard drive is going to fail, I'd highly recommend you to make backups of your HDD content and buy a new hard drive.

Pretty bad if it fails, you'll lose everything.
