Ever wanted to learn mapping but no idea where to start?

For months I have been working on a manual that will explain all the info, tips and tricks of the ATS map editor. Since I got less time lately I have decided to make this document public as of now.

The initial goal is to keep updating the manual with more information. Whenever I have a new version I will update the document. This way you guys can interact with the document as well. If there are special requests feel free to write them in this topic.

The document can be found here

Great work Nico. Will this include a glossary of hotkeys? that would be super useful something I've been itching to see anywhere. just basically a list of available hotkey commands and a basic what does it do sort of thing is good enough. Also, does this manual apply to the ETS editor too? or are they different animals entirely?

Same applies for ETS2 (for 99%).

Glossary is indeed a good idea, put it on my todo list. Many of the hotkeys are already added in the manual.

Can you please upload to another site? :)
I'd like to print this out, but I don't want to pay scribd nor give my credit card info to get the free trail..
(assuming you don't get paid by them?)

thanks ;)

Thank you from me too :)
Maybe I'll someday get back to dabbling with the map editor, maybe.
Sadly memorydoes not work as it did some years back.

Thank you so much for this tutorial! I understand the way the map editor works now! There is just one thing I'm still struggling with: saving and loading the map. I don't know if I'm having a problem, or if I'm just doing something wrong. When I save a map I don't really know where it's being saved. I can choose a folder to save it, but I don't know where those folders are actually located. I always save the map in the /map folder. So far no problem, but when I restart the editor and click open map, my maps don't appear there. When I go to: ATS/base/map the maps are saved there, including the .mbd files. The thing is that I can't go to this location in the editor. Conclusion: I don't understand the saving/loading system for editing the maps. Could someone make this clear for me?, or maybe this subject could be included in the manual.
