This project will look familiar -- it was started and announced last year by Jack Kelly, who did a really nice job. Per recent correspondence he's no longer interested in maintaining it, so with his permission I forked the repo and started editing :-) Since I'm on the n00bie learning curve myself, I'm probably in a good position to contribute to a Beginner's Guide :-)

Please do have a look, and I invite everyone to critique, correct, etc. At present it's mostly Jack's work, with a bunch of edits and a couple of new chapters by yours truly; but I've been trawling the fora the last couple of days (reading entire threads, egad) for more snippets of knowledge to expand the doco & it will be growing pretty fast. My ambition is to make this repo Noobie Central, the starting place where you can send novice mappers; and maybe (in my dreams!) eventually Mapper Central, the place where even advanced mappers look up stuff they haven't used for a while.

I would like to thank all the usual suspects! Happy New Year everyone.
