Stops the truck from accellerating out of control when going downhill, the cruise control uses it. Also gentler on the truck than using the wheel brakes when carrying a 7 to 25 T trailer at 90 Km/h.

Ah I got confused with engine & exhaust brake. So the engine brake is the retarder.

I have the retarder mapped separately as I don't use the joint wheel & retarder brake option. I tend to use the retarder for slowing down, and just use the regular brakes to come to a complete stop.

Adaptive Transmission makes the snowy roads worse if anything. Sequential is really the only way to do it. It'd be nice if the physics were fixed.

I play with a 360 Pad as well, though my bindings are somewhat different.

A: Parking Brake (I abuse the heck out of this, I use it virtually whenever I stop)
B: Air Horns
X: Headlights (High Beam)
Y: Wipers (Cycle)
LT: Pneumatic Brake
RT: Throttle
LB: Exhaust Brake
RB: Cruise Control Set/Stop
D-Pad Up: Shift Up
D-Pad Down: Shift Down
D-Pad Left: Left Indicator
D-Pad Right: Right Indicator
Left Analogue: Steering
Left Analogue Click: Standard Horn
Right Analogue: POV
Right Analogue Click: Headlights (Cycle)
Start: Map
Select: Cabin View

I've got the other Cruise Control buttons mapped to the keyboard's Cursor Keys which are generally convenient enough. I rarely use the Retarder, it requires more buttons than I can spare and the Exhaust Brake is generally sufficient. Retarder use is pretty rare here in Australia. In contrast, hearing the thumping of an exhaust brake on a Cummins engine is very common - Even the Volvo FH was available with a Cummins engine from the factory here.
Curry?! My manual doesn't have any data on curry... What's the meaning of this...?!

In game ... retarder does not switch off cruise control, exhaust brake does - assuming your are using automatic

Physics is fine, in DK you have trucks "parked" all over the place when condition is a bit slippery
Using 6x4 and manuel it's slow but doable on the snowy roads of Iceland

The retarder turns off the Cruise Control when it's invoked manually, just like the other two types of brake.

Auto retarder is activated only, when your speed exceeds the set limit from Gameplay settings (for Adaptive Cruise Control). Also, auto retarder keeps CC on and does not deactivate it.

Hello,

if some of you folks still stuck on icy or snowy roads, you could use the snow road patch for "Russian Open Spaces". You´ll find it here:

http://forum.scssoft.com/viewtopic.php? ... 94#p347794

Download (original link):

http://promods.net/sm_forward.html?lnk=/b47k5tglqb5y/snow_road.rar.html

Admittedly this patch removes the snow animation (it turns into brown snow slush animation), but you won´t stuck on snowy roads again, especially for player with simple automatic gear in game. There are two versions for 50 km/h and 80km/h.

best regards

The latest update now includes the ability to switch gearbox options on the fly with key binding. That will help somewhat.
