I genuinely hope SCS will do something about the engine "soon".
I have a rather high end PC which still struggles with big ProMods cities whereas I can play newer games on ultra quality. Yet ETS2 causes problems.
Currently I lag a hell of a lot in Spain. As much as I love ProMods' work there, I basically avoid taking jobs to Spain as driving with less than 20 FPS isn't enjoyable.
Considering how complex Spain is with their roads and nature, and the amount of amazing detail ProMods will put into it, I foresee more issues driving there.
It's really time SCS does something, because I am avoiding big ProMods places even though my PC runs any other game flawlessly.

Randleman, do you have issues with Italy?
If no, then why blame SCS.
Or only with Spain?
If Spain only, decrease the "Ultra quality" to drive there.

That SCS's announcement made me a little bit unhappy. But you know, first they will try to reach the countries that don't need to pass through DLC's, which is not the case for Iberia, because you would need Vive La France DLC to access Iberia or another thing (like by train, boat, etc). That's what you already discussed. But for everyone from Iberia, remember we will have even a more beautiful peninsula when ProMods releases it, and they're already working on this project! We just need to be patient ;)
I think the reason why SCS does DLC's as they do is:
Non DLC area/ or old DLC area connects to Newest DLC area.
Avoiding new DLC needed to connect to Newest DLC area.

So far all current DLC's and even the coming Baltic DLC can be reached from the base map.
While Iberian Peninsula would need France DLC.

Quoting myself, due to viewtopic.php?p=223606#p223606:

Looks like SCS will add Spain and Portugal sometime in the future. "we will also get to build a new map DLC comprising Portugal and Spain"
SCS post about Portugal day.
We strongly believe that Euro Truck Simulator 2 still has enough life in it that eventually, we will also get to build a new map DLC comprising Portugal and Spain.
Eventually. Let us hope that we have SCS Software in the future.

/edit: Added quote from page 417.
SCS + ProMods = Great Maps.

Not really, they could just use the Plymouth - Bilbao ferry

Yes, there are issues in big cities in Italy too, @Shiva.
I don't even play ETS2 on Ultra and encounter FPS drops.
The whole ultra thing wasn't refering to ETS2, but to other games.
If my PC can run games like F1 2017 GTA V on ultra settings, then hypothetically it shouldn't have any issues with ETS2, yet it does.
And I am certainly not the only person complaining about FPS drops in ETS2 with a high end system. It's time SCS updates their engine.

Randleman, are you using Scaling 400% if yes, drop to 100% ?

Well, that ferry would be a possibility.
On the other hand, Baltic has direct connection with the oldest DLC, Going East.

Apparently the Spanish government wants to remove most toll roads by stopping their concessions by private companies this year. The end of the AP-1 and those 22 euros from France to Burgos... Promods will still have to be changed due to its 2019 issue.

https://www.francetvinfo.fr/monde/espag ... 12819.html in this vidéo in french langage, there're saying that maybe in the last 2018 quarter, the AP-8 --> AP-1 road 'll be free tollgates. And that AP-4 and AP-7 between TARRAGONA and ALICANTE 'll be free tollgates in 2019^^ pretty cool uh?

it's true. Irun - Algeciras 100% free, no need to try to get around with nationals etc. It will refund the rise in toll prices from Paris to Irun.
