I simply opened the [Def and Map] scs file with 7-zip and deleted the unit folder as described on page 1. Worked fine for me. No need to extract and recreate.

I did exactly the same, and my game keeps crashing all the time... You open [Def and Map] with 7-zip, delete "unit" folder from opened [Def and Map] and leave it (D&M) in a folder, right?

Yes, that is basically what I do (I'm a little unclear what you mean by leave it in a folder). I open D&M with 7-zip, delete folder "unit", close 7-zip, and I'm done.

Maybe I will look as a moron, but how do you "close" 7-zip? I try to close it with 7-zip, but I can only get typical archive... and I need .scs file obviously

My mistake was that I clicked every time "Extract files" instead of "Open archive" and I couldn't manage how I have to make it work again.
