@Nico: Certainly buy a Mercedes, I know you can get a W210 chassis and older for €5K easily, they don't cost that much in Netherlands.

I wouldn't mind a BMW M3. I also like that car. But to be realistic, I think that Volvos are pretty decent cars to own.

Nah... for a student there needs to be some unreliability built in, so we're talking a clapped out Alfa 156 or a Lada Samara or something, imo.
