For your road sign, I think you can delete all elements in 3d called "light" to avoid this kind of brightness. French signs don't have lighted signs. Moreover, if there are only 2 lanes, you can put the external pillar closer to the road.

I tried them and you can read by night only if you switch on your lights, like in real life. I have driven on motorways overnight (between 2 am and 5am) and it's so easy to read the directions in the game with this lighting system. I modified it and it's like in real life, you have to turn your lorry towards the road sign to be able to read it.
