ETS2 was released in 2012, ATS in 2016, 4 years of difference is a good explenation why the vanilla of America is way better than Europe.

There are roundabouts in USA too, no miracles needed.
ETS2 had zero updates? ah, you mean the old UK/Germany part. For the map itself.
ATS, resize + some new roads? I count that as 2. or the cutoff Route 1, that could be a 3rd.
When I refer to "updates" I'm talking of updates that improve the vanilla map. ATS has had the rescale from 1:35 to 1:20, the 1.29 update, the cutoff route 1 (1.28)... ETS2 has never had a map update.
With the miracle thing I want to say that is a miracle to see a roundabout in the USA compared with Europe.

ETS2 has never had a map update.
As you're quite new on our forum, I guess you didn't play ETS2 since the release, like me for example ;)
So, you don't remember the original map without any DLCs and without the updates below:

ETS2 has 3 cities that came with a free game update: Graz, Klagenfurt am Wörthersee and Venezia.

And 2 free cities for Going East owners: Pécs and Szeged.

Yup, tbh I started playing ETS2 at the beginnings of 2013.
I didn't know the update of Venice, Graz and Klagenfurt but I did know the one of Pécs and Szeged, tho the hungarian ones I didn't count them as they are not vanilla, they are from the Going East DLC because Hungary was way too tiny.

I would also consider the upgrade of vanilla parts of France and Italy an update to the base map

This is an ATS topic.

Vanilla ATS is much much better than vanilla ETS. Cities and highways are very detailed. Also I like spacious roads and infrastructure. There are no narrow streets, roundabouts, etc. And maximum truck speed is 65 mph which is ~105kmh (not 80).
We must consider that vanilla ATS has had 3 updates for now, while vanilla ETS2 had none.
And there are no roundabouts in ATS because it's kind of a miracle to see a roundabout in the USA tbh.

Yes, it is :)

I have seen roundabouts on Interstate interchanges.
1 example of a drop formed roundabout.
