Use Imgur as image host

While browing this forum I frequently notice pages take 10-30 seconds to load, all because people use a slow image hoster. See the last few pages in the progress in Iceland topic for example. This is very annoying and is simply fixed by using a fast and reliable image hoster.

So please use www.imgur.com to include images in your posts which will load instantly.

Majhost is not a slow image host. It's because the images are in PNG format instead of JPEG (which is compressed) that these images load slowly. Converting images to JPG will do a lot when it comes to reducing loading times.

That's quite right. I know this from my image editor - JPGs save instantly, the same image in PNG format takes 2-3 seconds to save.

FYI:

We always appreciate it if people upload their pics to image hosters and not to our server ;)

That will help the forum as well :p

Exactly! Better to use an image host then the attachements because you save server space and page load quicker althought they upgraded there servers thanx to our support. I use imgur for both ProMods forum and SCS forum.

PNG files indeed load slower because they're much larger. PNG has no quality loss. JPG is smaller, but always has some kind of blurryness. If many people prefer JPG over PNG, I'll consider posting new shots in JPG format.

PNG will not load slower than JPG. Well, not user noticable. We're talking about a little bit of extra filesize and a couple of miliseconds your browser needs to load them. On an average internet connection and computer, this isn't an issue at all.

It's really a matter of filehost, no doubt about that. Especially when hotlinking an image.

I prefer PNG images anyway, I use nothing else in my daily computer usage. PNG has lossless compression and overall better quallity than JPG. But I don't really want to start a image format war here.

Yeah the screenshots from the game are all in png format and I don't want to start converting them all the time.

But JPG does load quicker than PNG, especially when you have 10+ PNG pics on a single page.
