How do I add variants to a road?

How do I add a variant to a road in blender? And do I need to change def files for it to work?

You need to use Blender for variants. They are part of the model.

Yes, I know that. But the road I am adding a variant to already has several other variants on it. Do I just export it, or do I have to change some things?
