SCS 1.40 update

As you know scs is going to completely change the light system and the have been working hard on that for months. They said that they must have manually change some features of textures etc. Does it mean that Promods also will need that kind of upgrade? It seems to be impossible to adjust every single texture etc. in regular time from official upgrade of game to the new PR Relase. How does it work exactly? I hope that update 1.40 won't stop Promods once and forever.

ProMods is keep updating since 2013! What makes you believe that it could stop once and forever now?

We won't know the scope of work required until we have access to the update. This may be as late as February or March.

This wouldn't be the first time we've had to modify every texture we introduce.

If we stay with our 1.39 releases for a while, then so be it. We will continue to keep pace with SCS's updates and changes, even if it takes some time.

ProMods is such superlative quality work that I understand this sentiment and position. Are there instructions for users how to configure Steam or whatever is necessary to ensure a future update doesn't break ProMods? Or do we have parallel installs (is that even possible)? I would like to pre-configure my ETS 2 to prevent an inevitable chaos when 1.40 hits. Assuming many others, including you devs want to do the same, is there a tutorial or instructions?

Thanks for all the incredible high quality and hard work that makes ETS 2 so much more enjoyable.

Even if the game updates itself you will be able to go to BETAS in Steam and downgrade there.

The annoying thing with Steam is that you cannot tell it to stop updating. Once a new update is out Steam will update the game without any questions asked.
To solve that, you have to manually downgrade it again

There seems to be a way around - as soon as the open Beta is out (which normally means that the old version, in this case 1.39 doesn't get updates) right-click the game in your library, goto Properties -> Updates and select "only update when the game is started" - when the new version is out and starts downloading, go to Beta -> Select Beta -> temporary_1_39 and the download should stop. Worked for me the last few times.
Having said that, I just discovered that that option already exists so maybe as soon as the open Beta is out we can already "freeze" the game - I'll give it a try and report

If you are playing only single player (and without World of Trucks) then you can select the "temporary_1_39 - 1.39.x for incompatible mods" beta branch right now. That branch will never be updated to 1.40, but it will usually be 1 or 2 minor updates behind the "Opt out of all betas" branch while the game is still in 1.39. For example at the time of this post the "Opt out of all betas" branch is at game version 1.39.2.1, while the "temporary_1_39" branch is at game version 1.39.1.0. Obviously this won't work if you are playing on TruckersMP because they require you to use the latest version in the "Opt out of all betas" branch most of the time, and World of Trucks requires the latest version for you to participate in the Christmas event.
