How do i improve my map making skills?

Hello,

Apologies if I posted this in the wrong section. Basically I want to create maps but I seem to lack creativity. It is hard for me to make the map look diverse. I end up to be only using a single grass texture and trees for everything. And I also give up way to easily for some reason. I attempted an IRL and a fictional map but did not found any success with either. It sucks cause I really do want to map. What advice would you guys give me?
