Can not use 1.15 and promod

Despite daily backups of all ETS files Steam keeps forcing the 1.15 update on me and even with ProMods 1.8.1 disabled in profile, ETS crashes every time I try to access Controls or Game Settings. I can access Keyboard, Graphics and Audio with no problem. Something in all this has wiped out my controller settings so I can't drive other than assigning keyboard.
I have tried disabling 1.8.1, tried everything I can think of and am desperately trying not to lose months of driving all my work and starting all over again. Setting up a new profile with 1.8.1 disabled works fine but again I lose everything.

Not seeing any posts here re: 1.15 but if anyone can help me I'd be deeply grateful...game log follows.

I know there is an issue about 1.15 , PROMOD and small dealership. The dealership at the top of the ELB Tunnel I can pass by, I was hoping that it was fixed when it was released here to night. 1.15 is out of beta. But I have other questionsmarks at the map, so you do not know if it is a dealership or a jobcenter behind it. So it would be nice if it could be done. In a earliere post, in another thread someone wrote that you at promod were using a different model than the default. and that made the troubles. ( My mistake if I miosunderstood it. ) But what I really want to say that we can not avoid all dealerships and all questionsmarks so the game will crash frequently unless we dont use the promod and just wait and sit back for the DLC ETS2 Going North.

This has been asekd several times now: ProMods is NOT compatible with ETS2 1.15, because SCS changed looks of the small truck dealers which cause the game to crash on not updated map mods.

Well on my problem I am finding the controller settings in the profile text settings so hopefully can get by until the update. All this trouble so SCS can give such minor features - good grief. Wait on updates SCS until there are reasonable improvements.

I'm not trying to promote another map mod here, but the latest Russia map pack (RusMap_v1.4.5) includes a fix for the small dealer problem (replaces the new models with the old ones). The fix is a standalone mod, so can be used with ProMods or other map mods, even if you don't want to use the RusMap. At least for now it will overcome those game crashes until the mods are updated.

I solved this by transferring back to the vanilla SCS map and then it let me disable promods without killing my profile. WHEW. Thanks to all who offered advice!

Open your Steam Library, right click Euro Truck Simulator 2, choose Properties. On the betas tab, select "temporary_1_14_02 - 1.14.2 for incompatible mods". That should downgrade your game and keep it that way, unless you set it to update at Steam startup or high priority on the updates tab. I kept my Steam copy of the game on 1.12 for a while for the multiplayer (until they ran into the spoofing issues and set the whole world to non-collision) and it did not update to v1.13 on its own during that time.
